Are there lessons every week during the school term?
No. We deliver 10 lessons a term, but the school term may be longer. The teacher will try and spread the lessons evenly and will inform you of the non-teaching weeks.

Should my child attend the lesson if they have forgotten their instrument?
Yes. If they learn in a group they can still participate in the lesson and know what to practise at home. If they have an individual lesson the teacher will cover other topics such as theory or rhythm and pitch.

What happens if my child is absent whether through illness or a school trip/ event and misses a lesson?
If your child is having lessons in a group no credit or refund will be made. If they have an individual lesson and the teacher has been given 48 hours’ notice, the teacher will try to make up the lesson at another time.

If your child forgets their lesson no credit will be made but the teacher will make every effort to put a system in place so that it does not happen regularly.

Do I get a credit if the teacher is absent?
Where possible the teacher will make up lessons either later in the term or later in the year. At the end of the year we do a count of all the lessons given. If the teacher fails to give the number of lessons that have been paid for, we will set up a credit against your September invoice, or refund you if you have given the correct notice to stop lessons.

Will lessons at school be during the school day?
To help more families to access instrumental tuition, we normally arrange lessons during the school day. However if the school has accommodation problems, we will in those cases arrange lessons at the end of the school day. If you would prefer an individual lesson outside school hours, we can arrange for lessons to take place at an alternative venue.

Do I have to use the beginners’ package of £75?
To help parents and pupils we arrange for the tutor book that the teacher prefers to be delivered at the first lesson. This ensures that all pupils have a book immediately. In many cases we subsidise the cost of the book. However if you would prefer to purchase the tutor book, please contact the office to find out the title and publisher.

How do I pay?
Invoices are sent out on 1 September, mid December and 1 April. You can pay using your own online banking or by posting a cheque to the Make Time for Music office. The details you need are on the invoice.

Can I give payments to the teacher or school?
Teachers cannot accept payments of any kind. Do not send in payments to your child’s school office. Please send payments only to the Make Time for Music office.

How can I help my child?
Pupils need to practise between lessons and you can help by reminding them! In the early stages 10 minutes a day is the recommended level. Get them to play for you and family and friends. Make sure they take their instrument to school on the day of their lesson.

How do I stop lessons?
Lessons are organised in blocks of 10. Lessons 1 to 10 are timetabled during the Autumn terms, lessons 11 to 20 during the Spring terms, and lessons 21 to 30 during the Summer terms.

Lessons continue until you give notice to stop. You do not need to reapply each term.

Please send notice by letter or email to the Make Time for Music office to stop lessons by the due date:

• 31 October for tuition to stop after lesson 10
• 28 February for tuition to stop after lesson 20
• 15 July for tuition to stop after lesson 30
